Fee Information
When the civil marriage celebrant programme was first set up in the early 1970s, the Federal Government prescribed a set fee for all celebrants, especially in the knowledge that we were providing a community service, not setting up a business.
My fee has remained competitively low in keeping with that philosophy.
From 1 January 2010, my fee structure is as follows:
Within the Greater Hobart area
- Wedding ceremony
- $400
- Name-giving ceremony
- $250 first child
$150 each additional child at the same ceremony
$200 subsequent ceremony within the same family - Funeral
- $350
Tasmania
Where travel is involved, eg to the north-west of Tasmania, East Coast, Strahan, Launceston – I also add the cost of petrol for the return trip.
Interstate
Interstate or for example, Flinders or King Islands, travel and accommodation is by negotiation.
My fee covers:
- all relevant legal paperwork and associated legal requirements of a civil ceremony,
- advice and assistance in developing and designing a personal ceremony, and a personalised copy for use on the day itself and to keep as a memento
- any rehearsals
- travel to and from the place at which the ceremony is to be held, unless as outlined above
- the dignified conduct, in a personal and memorable manner, of a ceremony in keeping with the desired style of the participants
Cancellation fee
If you cancel your planned wedding within a calendar month of the agreed-to date, you would be required to pay the fee in full.
If the cancellation is well outside that time, but for a popular date such as Easter or Valentine’s Day, the fee would 50% of the due amount.
Otherwise, I do not charge a fee, even if all paperwork is in hand!
